StarCloud Free
Android Game Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
Even though strategy games aren’t my personal favorite, I still enjoy reviewing them because it’s fun to see how creative developers can be. It can be extremely difficult to break the mold when it comes to developing a game for such a huge market, so it’s interesting to see what kinds of twists developers add to their game.
StarCloud Free, developed by Sparkle Mobiles, is an interesting strategy game for Android. If you enjoy a good interplanetary challenge, this game is definitely worth a look.
Concept and Gameplay:

StarCloud Free is definitely the perfect game for fans of the strategy genre. Though gameplay might seem fairly simple, things can get crazy pretty quickly. The game allows you to complete five campaigns, each with their own unique challenges. In the full version of the game, you can unlock the random level selector and level designer.
The concept of StarCloud Free is pretty easy. When you start your campaign in easy, normal, or hard mode, you’re presented with a planetary layout. Some planets belong to you and your enemy, while others are up for grabs by either side. Each planet has a maximum number of ships that can be based there, and to capture another planet you need to move your ships to it and effectively take it over. This game is definitely all about strength in numbers, so it’s important to develop tactics so you can conquer your enemy as quickly as possible.
Regarding overall thoughts on gameplay, I found StarCloud Free to be pretty fun. Graphics are decent and the concept of the game is easy to understand. However, I found that the game has a very early tipping point, meaning it’s extremely difficult to recover if the enemy gains the upper hand at any point in the level.
Features:

While StarCloud Free excels by being unique in gameplay, it falls short on features. For example, there’s no way to keep track of level scores. This poses a challenge for players who like to improve old scores. Also, aside from ships orbiting and moving from planet to planet, there isn’t much going on during gameplay. Sure, there are animations that pop up when a planet is contested, but I was hoping for something a little more exciting.
StarCloud Free feels like it’s missing some sort of free play mode, too. I’ve found that most successful strategy games include a way for players to hone tactics in a sandbox environment, even if it means enabling God mode or something similar. This idea might be similar to what’s offered in the paid version’s level designer, but it would be great to see something similar in the free version of StarCloud, as well.
Value:

StarCloud comes in both a free version and a paid version. The paid version costs $1.99 and unlocks the random level selector and level designer. While it’s a decent game that has a unique concept going for it, I feel it needs a bit more to make it truly stellar.
Android Apps Review Details: StarCloud Free is FREE and requires Android 2.2+. You can download it from Google Play. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
