Snake Slap
Android Game Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
If you’ve been with us long here at the Android Apps Review, you’re likely aware of the fact that we enjoy little else more than a good arcade title. We salivate over any and every new app that promises us leader boards, achievements, and hours spent learning useless skills: Like bird tossing, or block pushing.
Today’s skill—snake flinging—is a new one, though, and it’s brought to us by an excellent new game called Snake Slap, from Purplebeard.
Snake Slap features inventive and fun gameplay with a unique mechanic we just haven’t seen anywhere else.
If that sounds like something you could get into, then head on down below the break for our full review!
Concept and Gameplay
Snake Slap has a lot in common with several famous arcade titles, but quite honestly there’s nothing out there like it. The game features a single serpentine protagonist, affectionately named “Slappy.”
To play the game, the user needs to grab Slappy by the head and fling her around the level. Doing so makes Slappy smack into the waves of small, delicious animals. Every hit earns you points, while every loss counts against you.
In this way, it’s a lot like Fruit Ninja. But unlike Fruit Ninja, you have to control an entirely new set of physics problems to succeed. You can’t just flick a finger and hope to win here.
To truly make the most of it, you’ll have to keep Slappy away from bombs while timing the swings appropriately to get the maximum return each time.
It’s tricky stuff, and it’s made a little harder by the title’s sometimes sluggish control scheme.
That aside, it’s hard to complain about the concept and gameplay that this entertaining game is offering.
Snake Slap is fun, offers a different game mechanic, and ultimately is quite satisfying—even after multiple playthroughs, and for players of all ages.
Design and Graphics
Snake Slap has a distinctly amusing Jungle Book thing going for it, and it fits the game well.
The colors are bright, the animals silly, and the main character herself hardly worth causing a fuss over.
All in all, we’d grade Snake Slaps’ artwork at a solid “decent.” It’s not the best we’ve ever seen on the platform—we’d love to see a more unique tone to all this jungle mystique—but it’s also not the worst.
As mentioned earlier, we aren’t the biggest fans of the game’s controls, though. It’s often quite hard to keep Slappy out of harm’s way, but not in a fun way. Losing because the bombs move far too quickly compared to your motions can be frustrating.
Still, these losses are rare enough that it’s still worth pursuing the gameplay here.
Overall Value
At the end of the day, Snake Slap is free, fun, and endlessly rewarding.
All of these are key elements we look for in a classic arcade title. Sure, the app could do with a face lift sometime down the road. But in the here and now, it’s a no-cost way to increase the pleasure of your next lazy afternoon.
Have a moment to spare? Then definitely download this exciting new entry into the Android arcade genre.
