Android App Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
Being able to meet new people is nowhere near as challenging as it used to be thanks to all of the different apps and services that are available to us. However, sometimes you want to meet someone who is very close to you, perhaps only a few hundred feet away.
Coucou! is a great new way to check out other users who are nearby. It uses hyper local discovery so you can connect with someone you may have already made eye contact with.
Concept and Functionality
Like most social networking apps, Coucou!, from Vitor Manuel Santos, requires you to upload a selfie so you’re recognizable. Your profile is only visible to people within 100 meters, or roughly 330 feet or just about the length of a soccer field.
This means you have a pretty fair chance of recognizing another Coucou! user if you’re in the same location. Even if you’re in a large gathering, you can reach out to everyone in your area by broadcasting a message or sending a private message directly to someone.
One of the things I really like about Coucou! is that it seems to do a pretty good job of making sure users are able to keep each other in check. For example, public messages can be rated by everyone and if a user’s message isn’t appropriate, the app will suspend messaging privileges.
Features
Even though Coucou! is still gaining traction as a social networking app, there’s a fair chance you may encounter another user while you’re out and about. If this happens, the app will notify you even if it isn’t running.
It was actually pretty amazing how it picked up and displayed my friends nearby who also had the app downloaded. Using this app definitely has a “wow” factor that goes well beyond just reading about it.
There’s also a bit of a game aspect to Coucou!, as well, in that users can try to guess which person sent a public message. Between this and being able to rate messages using likes and dislikes, users gradually earn a score based on how many people they’ve interacted with.
If you have a memorable conversation with another Coucou! user, you can save it to your device. However, the app will notify the other user and ask for their permission to let you store the conversation, which is a very considerate and respectful feature.
Value
Coucou! is available to download from Google Play for free and doesn’t include any in-app purchases that I could find.
If you live in a large city, chances are you might be able to put Coucou! to the test. Personally I think this is an app you should download keep on your watchlist because I believe it has a great chance of becoming popular now that the world is returning to normal again.
Coucou! is FREE and requires Android 5.0+. You can download it from Google Play.
