It may not be the most pleasant topic but let’s face it, we all need to accept we are mortal and properly prepare for when our time comes to an end.

Of course people thing about the afterlife in many different ways but that’s not the issue here. No matter how you think about what comes next, if anything, there’s a lot to think about with respect to ending your time on earth.

The question is, can an app help with that?

MyLastWill is a well-designed app that insures your final wishes and messages will be preserved and passed to those who matter.

Concept and Functionality

Care and consideration are a must when you are offering an app that will be used to ease someone’s mind when it comes to such a personal topic. MyLastWill, developed by Mylastwill.org Inc., does just that.

It does this by starting you off with a thorough tutorial to orient you to all its functions which are all designed to give you a quick and easy way to lay out your final wishes and message. You have three options when you open the app, and successfully get past the pin code wall. You can set up a Last Will using a video to communicate your instructions regarding your body and aspects of your estate.

The Living Will options enables you to easily create a video statement regarding your wishes for any medical treatment that you may or may not want in case you are not in a position to speak for yourself. This is an important part of planning and very often is overlooked.

Of course you will also likely want to leave behind some final words of wisdom or expressions of love (or not) regarding people in your life. By pressing this tab you are able to create a personal video message that expresses just what you want to say, complete with facial expressions as well as literal content.

Quite simply, as stated in the app, MyLastWill acts as your final communication and notification service. You can set up Notifiers, Representatives, and Recipients to make sure your wishes are communicated to those that matter.

MyLastWill is a free app to download although to use its capabilities is not free. There are five payment options that range from $29.99 per year to a one time $399.99 package with unlimited editing.

The app definitely is useful and shows promise. In future updates we’d like to see a way to have others you’ve named submit videos so there can be a separate section for friends and family. These videos could be vetted by the account owner and made available to all, or specific group of people, as appropriate.

Overall MyLastWill is an intriguing app that many will find quite useful, although we fear that cost might limit its appeal.
