Here at Android Apps Review we have a thing for RPGs. Now another title is joining the ranks of apps we’ve taken for a ride. The Eve of the Genesis Android app combines features from many popular RPGs in its own special way to create a new world to explore.
If you’re ready to fight monsters, explore a wide world of towns and trouble, and make a few new friends along the way you’ll love our Android app review of Even of the Genesis.
Concept & Gameplay

Eve of the Genesis
In the Eve of the Genesis Android app you control a set of fighters in a battle against global machine domination. The intro story is blessedly brief. You get the gist of your struggle, and then it’s on to battle.
Crossing land and shuffling through dungeons you will face a myriad of baddies in different configurations and strengths. You will collect gold, build skills, upgrade weapons and level up as you battle your way through the land.
This game strongly resembles classic Final Fantasy titles. You start with one fighter, and soon collect a second and a third, then face monsters in fight scenes. If you were a fan of console style RPGs, you will love this game.
One of our favorite updates is the auto button. The game seems to dump you in to fights a bit too often, especially in dungeons. So if you’re tired of selecting each attack and boost manually, tap the friendly auto button and let the game fight for you.
Layout & Design
Eve of the Genesis
All the characters in Eve of the Genesis Android app are rendered in detailed 8-bit style graphics. This creates a consistent retro vibe that so many RPGs rock these days. There are some smart design details though, from fluttering butterflies to character reflections in pools of water.
Controlling your characters and navigating menus can get a bit cumbersome. In many cases you have to hit return and back several times just to get free from menu tree hell.
The joystick control could be a bit more translucent in our opinion. Sometimes it’s impossible to see what you walk in to because of screen constraints (this is an issue on phones more than tablets).
Value
When it comes to high quality apps with killer prices, Android has every other OS beat. Right now Eve of the Genesis checks in at $3.99. Apparently that’s a sale price, PLUS 50 percent off. Normally this title will cost $10.49. That’s not going to break the bank, but it is pretty hefty for an Android game. When there are such amazing free RPGs out there, it’s kind of hard to understand the game’s pricing.
If you’re looking for something similar for a lot less dough check out something like Zenonia 3.
Functionality
User reviews mention this app’s torrid history with the Asus Transformer and a handful of other issues. We had a bit of a battery problem with the app (it drained in less than half an hour) and otherwise was pleased.
If you want an RPG with a lot of classic charm and a solid storyline consider adding the Eve of the Genesis Android app to your collection.
