Unleash some serious smack down in the new Cartoon Wars: Gunner+ Android game from Gamevil. We’ve had a good experience reviewing games from this developer in the past (see our app review of Zenonia 3) so our expectations were high, and they were all met.

Cartoon Wars: Gunner+ is an arena style battle game, where you run and shoot in an effort to defeat the minions of the evil king of Cartoon World. Of course, you play a plucky stick figure cartoon, and you battle other simply drawn villains.

As you defeat the bad cartoons and move through progressively difficult levels, you earn game currency. Use this currency to upgrade your weapons arsenal and personal stats.

This game has a seemingly endless amount of upgrades, weapons and special attacks to unlock, so many that it’s sometimes difficult to choose the right items to upgrade. If you get off on the wrong foot consider creating a new game in one of the Cartoon wars: Gunner+ Android app’s game slots. We suggest focusing on weapon upgrades and HP, otherwise you might end up rerunning levels to grind out some gold just to get ahead.

An overabundance of upgradables aside, this game is a lot of fun, especially once you master the game controls. Each weapon has different effects, on your enemies and your MP earnings, so gameplay involves a certain amount of strategy to master.

Layout & Design

We’re in love with Cartoon Wars: Gunner+ Android app and it’s simple graphics. This game takes the concept of stick figure drawing and raises it to an art form, with 30 unique enemies to defeat, and 11 different styles of weapon. This Android game manages to be diverse and simple at the same time.

On-screen controls are easy to master as well. You control Captain J with a simple joystick interface, and unleash your weapon du jour by tapping directional arrows. The main controls are translucent, helping you keep an eye on wandering enemies.

The game is decidedly two-dimensional. Although you can move our stick figured hero up, down, right and left, you can only shoot right and left. It helps keep the game manageable.

Value

Like so many of our favorite Android app obsessions, Cartoon Wars: Gunner+ is free to download and enjoy. While the game does not require any sort of purchase to play, you can purchase currency in the application to help move your upgrades along. This might make the game move a little quicker, but it is not necessary to enjoy the title.

We think Cartoon Wars: Gunner+ is an exceptionally fun Android game and suggest giving it a whirl. You might love it just as much as we do.
