Everyone loves to pay homage to their mothers and grandmothers because they want to recognize the love and devotion they received when they were growing up. Very touching. But sometimes things don’t quite work out the way we’d like.
Granny is an incredibly fun and entertaining game that pits you against the “anti-granny”. She will keep you trapped in her house where you’ll meet a gruesome end unless you can avoid her and, quietly, find your way out in 5 days.
Developed by DVloper, Granny’s house has lots to offer in terms of scenes and strategy. The visuals and mechanics of the game are terrific and it’s the most fun we’ve with grandma in many years.
Features
Granny starts out by letting you select one of four difficulty levels, easy, normal, hard, and extreme. We like this setup since it lets you ease into the gameplay and ratchet it up as you gain proficiency.
In “easy” mode , granny moves a bit slower, there are no creaking (i.e. noisy) floors, and you have an opportunity to get a bonus day. In “normal” mode the only perk you get is the opportunity for a bonus day.
“Hard” mode starts to separate the players from the wannabes. You are warned that granny moves a bit faster and there’s one extra lock on the maindoor.
However, if you really want to test yourself, check out “extreme” mode where granny moves faster than you, there are two extra locks on the maindoor and darker mode is on.
In order to get through the game (and out of the house) you have to be quiet which means not stepping on creaking floors, not dropping things and generally avoiding any noise-making moves. To keep granny from finding you when she’s on the loose you can hide in or under things.
One bit of advice though, keep moving up the difficulty level until granny finds you, an encounter you won’t want to miss.
Overall found Granny to be eminently playable and replayable since there are a variety of ways that it gets more challenging. A refreshing change of the twitch games we’ve been playing where you just have to get faster and faster.
Appearance and Layout
Granny has the look, movement and, importantly, the sound track and sound effects that work perfectly with this terrific game.
The tones are dark and music is quite eerie, exactly what you’d expect for this game where sooner or later your blood will wind up all over the screen.
And while the scenes are somewhat minimalist they work great with the overall feel of the game.
Value
Granny is free to download and in the “free” version the ads are not a big pain in the butt (thank you DVloper!). That said it’s only a $0.99 IAP to get rid of them altogether.
Overall, we found Granny to be a highly addictive and entertaining game that is easy to get started with and offers tons of replay potential with all its variations.
