Android Game Review by AndroidAppsReview.com
Match 3 games are incredibly popular for a reason, people love them! But what makes one game stand out from the crowd? Why does one game generate literally millions of dollars for the developers while another one just sits by watching?
Toon Blast is a great example of a game that brings it all together. In fact, Toon Blast might well be the best game ever created. While that may sound over the top, especially to fans of Subway Surfers or Candy Crush Saga, keep reading and you’ll see why that might just be true.
Features
Just starting up Toon Blast, from Peak Games, makes you smile. It has a really lively audio track is perfect as a play-along tune to listen to while you go after the combinations that you need.
The game is simple enough to get you into pretty quickly but, of course, also increases in difficulty to make it a satisfying challenge. The trick with games like this is find the “Goldilocks zone”. That is, the delicate balance between “too easy”, which makes for a boring game, and “too hard”, which makes for a frustrating game.
We’re happy to report that the developers of Toon Blast have achieved a great balance between the two.
Finding the target combos is easy although maximizing your score is more of a challenge. You have to quickly grab lesser combos in order to move the pieces you need down to the lower rows so you can build bigger, and more rewarding, groups of like-colored pieces.
While you don’t need to connect via Facebook to play, which we applaud, your experience will be enhanced if you connect with your friends. There is a Teams option that you can unlock by passing level 20 that lets you join a team and chat with other players.
We really like how they bring the social aspect into the game without forcing you into it.
Appearance and Layout
The overall appearance of Toon Blast is ideal for this type of casual game. The combination of the well designed cartoon characters, the bright colors and the cheery sound track work great to keep you in a fun game-playing mood.
Once you start playing the game and move up the levels the challenges get a bit harder but you also more interesting. In level 9, for instance, 3 rubber ducks appear at the top of the game board and you have to tap color combos to move them the bottom to collect them.
Just don’t forget to put big combos together or you won’t get your 3 stars!
One thing to note is that this game is served very well by a larger screen so you’ll enjoy playing it even more on an Android tablet.
Value
As with many games like this (i.e., Candy Crush Saga) you can play Toon Blast for free although if you’re a bit impatient you might decide to pick up one of the bundles available. For example, the “Super Bundle” costs $12.99 and is labeled as “Most Popular”.
The value of this top-shelf game that is easily played without spending a dime is outstanding and sets the bar high for other developers who want to reach the casual gaming audience.
Toon Blast requires 4.1+.
